Faml 160 blog #3
This week’s family blog is on the subject of immigration and
trends and theories. Trends have a indication of what's happening in a family
while theory is a way to try and explain the phenomena that is occurring. This
can lead to wise family decisions by being informed. Culture it's things that are
shared values and beliefs within our society cultures culture will affect the
family. Studies show that culture and your family builds up society. Tradition
is an inherited belief while culture is changing all the time. As individuals
we can help change family culture.
what are the things that study has shown is that money is
not the biggest problem for family dynamics. we spent time thinking of what
kind of class we want to be in what the culture is to be.
The second part of the class week was covering a imaginary
immigration family from Mexico. This was done by the professor selecting
volunteers to act as mom dad older son and younger sister. In addition to these
was grandmother at and uncle and male cousin. The simulation for this group up
individuals was that the mom dad and two siblings were going to immigrate to
the United States via the use of big coyotes to take them across the border.
Cost or discussed from the range of $3000 to $7000 per individual. Because of
this cost there was determined that dad was going to be crossing the border
first in order to settle in find a job and send money home.
The various actors discussed how the roles would be with dad
gone and mom Nina take on the role of major provider at home. Because she was a
sole adult at home, she needs to find a job instead of just being the homemaker
to bring in income to help support the family. dad did immigrate to the USA and find a job.
However, because he was an undocumented worker, he would not be able to work at
the higher paid positions from which he left in Mexico being a vineyard worker.
He could send money home to his family for support, however his cost in the USA
were much higher than where he was in Mexico. This get showed that it took
three errors for dad and mom to say buff enough money to bring the rest of the
family to the United States via coyote. Some of this money came from selling
their house and household possessions in Mexico and I'll potentially much lower
cost do the fact that other people would be doing the same thing and selling
possessions in order to move to the United States.
Being undocumented aliens while in the United States the
family had to be cautious of who they would have for friends and the areas
where they could work. That's would limit the number of friends that this then
19 year old son could have and 16 year old sister, knowing that the wrong
person could turn them into immigration, for which they could be deported back
to Mexico.
Among several areas the importance of learning English was discussed,
because by learning English they could become converse international or adapt
to local culture in the United States. The professor mentioned an example of a
worker in Mexico that could receive three times the local salary just for the
fact that he knew English. This would allow him to work across borders and
converse with other people that could not necessarily speak Hispanic.
There will be difficulty for the Mexican family to
assimilate into the local culture. What normally would happen as they would conjugate
to live in areas that were like their background from being in Mexico. While in
this area they all would have some citizens and some aliens, and a trust could
be developing their own culture between others group thus carrying on some of
the traditions and culture of Old Mexico
One area discussed that has high importance is that a study
shows that the breakout a property three things need to occur number one
graduate from high school #2 no kids before being married and #3 having a job.
From personal perspective I cannot stress how important that this subject is.
That film that way saw in reference to the lady that worked at Burger King and
her oldest son fell into the same conditions and economic situation that mom
was in.
